This is amplified with a pick-up. I bow the spokes, and fret them with a guitarists bottle-neck. It is not always possible to determine which note will come out as the harmonics seem very unstable. It will jump from certain notes to others, and some notes can only be approached from above and others only from below. So altogether not a very precise science. This makes it good for improvising, as it can surprise me when I am playing it. Here are two exerpts from "Wheelsongs" from the album White Fog on EMANEM - the spooky one is from"A wheelwright used to live here" and the tuneful one is called "Walnut".
